BIRTHDAY

Some birthdays are more significant than others, depending on what the prior year has held or what you anticipate the coming year(s) might hold. These poignant birthdays are worth marking. This is a time to clarify the importance of this birthday through understanding the past and the transition it proposes to your life to live into the future. The ritual will guide you through one year and into the next so that your whole being — body, heart, and soul — will know and remember the change.

“There was something that needed to come out of me. I had been experiencing a lot of change. I wanted something meaningful for my birthday in which I wasn’t coordinating by myself, but with someone to help me carry it along. I had something to say and I needed someone like Heather to facilitate the time for my words and expression of change. I needed the chance to receive from others. My birthday ritual made way for the embodiment of my soul. ”

MOTHER BLESSING

Whether it’s your first birth or subsequent births, you need a place and time to consider and feel what it means to bring a child into this world and the impact it has on you. This is a time for you to receive blessing, face any fear and anxiety, and to connect you and your community to the new life.

“I felt like something physically was released in me. I had more faith and comfortability with the idea of birthing again. My imagination was opened for something different than what the past had been. I felt safe.”

-Karen C.

LOSING A LOVED ONE

When you have lost someone or something whether through change or death, often it’s hard to know how to really give expression to the pain. The pain can be isolating and stifling. There are formalities, like a funeral, which are important, yet they often don’t permit your heart’s deepest cry. Your body needs engagement through your senses, whether through loving touch, fragrances, listening to music, singing that speaks of the unspeakable, or seeing others lament alongside you. This ritual will help you honor your suffering and who or what you have lost. The elements of a grief ritual, through actions, symbols, and witnesses, will provide signposts while in the chaos of loss, serving as memory markers to return to—these tether you and release you, mark you and move you through a difficult season.

"Heather's wisdom and guidance in the ritual for our miscarriage was vital to our healing. At times we struggled to connect with our grief to a child we never knew, and yet Heather left space for all that came up for us. There were no expectations, but a willingness and openness for our bodies to guide us into what was needed. It helped me become more intimate with all the light and dark things within me. Heather was a safe and gentle guide. I think I would have felt regret had she not been there. I feel proud that I had the courage to mark something that was so vital in my life. I highly recommend Heather and the gift she offers.”

HEALING FROM TRAUMA

Suffering is a part of life, whether we have lost a loved one, experienced sudden change, or are fighting disease. We encounter these deeply challenging and heart wrenching experiences often without structure, guidance, and community. This is a time to demarcate the grief and anger, give physical expression of the pain, discover the places you get stuck and move through them. Lastly, it’s a time experience a deep connection between yourself and those witnessing you.

“I saw how I had become passive from the pain of my trauma. I really needed to be intentional and active about what was happening. The investment of time, thought, body, community—having others join—was deeply effective. It was different than journaling or meeting with a friend to share what was happening inside of me; I could “sneak” out and remain hidden in those settings. This (ritual) allowed for my whole being to be engaged and seen.”

-Jamelyn K.

“When I went home after the ritual I felt very different. I felt more contained in myself, restful—a fight broke out and usually I feel compelled to step in, but I didn’t feel the need to sacrifice myself anymore. I don’t know if I’ve felt that in my body, the choice, which lowered me into my body, and helped me make a decision out of a body sense.”

SPOUSAL BETRAYAL

The experience of a partner’s betrayal is shattering. Life becomes disorienting and chaotic. This vulnerable time requires assistance through ritual to contain, reorient and allow for deep emotions to emerge with close friends and family.

DIVORCE

Marriage endings causes such tremendous upheaval. Your name, your family, your home, and your finances are no longer the same. This is a time to honor the past, feel the pain, purge of old, and lifeless things and discover strength and tenderness as you make the transition.

“The ritual played a significant role in marking my decision to change my name. I don’t think I knew how important it was in moving forward, but in hindsight, it is “the” thing that marked and launched me into what I felt called to do. Every time I think about the ritual experience tears come to my eyes. It was beautiful and beyond holy. It was the embodied, tangible and risky expression of hope that declared: “I believe.” The ritual made my name change feel legitimate and real.”

RITES OF PASSAGES
Female bodies hold and reveal a drama that ebbs and flows describing life and death, but often this drama is considered deeply bothersome. Yet our bodies are the ultimate narrators of time and bearers of life, the greatest of gifts, intended to be cherished and revered.

For menstruation, this ritual will guide your daughter and yourself (and whomever else you both desire to be in attendance) through the meaning of menstruation and how to orient around this monthly experience in a way that honors the body.

For menopause, this ritual will guide you (and whomever else you desire to be in attendance) to recall your youth, your body’s rhythms, and your life’s experiences, both good and difficult. It will help you move through the emotions of getting older and mark the entrance into a new season, which invites you to ascend into letting go and embracing a different identity — one that is resplendent.

END OF LIFE

It’s not often we give ourselves or our loved ones the space to ask, “How do I want to live? And, how do I want to die?” We forget that living and dying well might not mean undergoing another treatment or remaining in hospice care, but rather being in the countryside or in the comfort of your home as you spend time with loved ones. This ritual is a space to question and learn how you or your loved one wants to honor their life, legacy, and remaining days. It will sift through what is important and desired. It will delineate a clear plan of action and create a space to remember and honor life.
